FM2017-01 Musogradian Dogs

This issue was designed in cooperation with a commercial project to manufacture Dog Stamps and is dedicated to famous dogs of Musogradian history. Three dogs with links to Musograd are depicted - on the CW 0.75 stamp, Banjo (left) and Bonnie (right, Boxer) are shown. Banjo, a Musogradian Karabash, has served in the Musogradian Army and seen action against patrols of the occupying forces in the 1980's. The CW 1.20 stamp shows Stan, a Musogradian Shepherd. In an age where politicians gain power by sowing dissent and hate, the importance of human rights becomes more and more obvious. The Federated Micronations have a clear position protecting human rights, both in their general stance, as symbolized by the "Human Rights" symbol on the CW 1.00 stamp, and by specific actions and efforts indicated by the symbols used on the CW 2.00 stamp.

FM2017-03 United Republican League

On 1967.02.01, the United Republican League was founded, the first organisation dedicated to the propagation of democracy in the autocratic Musogradian Empire. There is an anecdote that the original name and abbreviation was selected by drawing lots by a nurse, selecting "Jednaja Respubliknaja Sajus" (JRS) over JS, RS or MS (Musogradni Sajus). Both the the CW 2.00 and CW 4.00 values are based on photos taken on Smiertny Gorny, a hill build out of the ruins of houses destroyed in WW II. The CW 4.00 stamp is designed as an Air Mail issue, but valid also for normal mail. The stamps were printed as se-tenant pairs.

Climate Toll Tax Stamps of the Federal Customs and Borders Agency##

FM2017-04 Climate Toll Tax Stamps

The announcement of U.S. President Donald Trump to exit the Paris Climate Accord triggered the Federated Micronations to introduce a 10% Climate Toll for all exports to the United States of America, starting from July 1st, 2017. For this purpose, 4 tax stamps for fiscal use were designed based on historic US tax stamp designs altered to display fossil snails and corals. As the toll covers only exports to the U.S., they are valued in US$. The toll stamps are sold in major post offices of Posta tal Musograd and Capricornia Post and have to be applied to all invoices for U.S. shipments. As there is no fiscal cancellation available, the local postal cancellation is to be used.

The stamps are shown here for reference only and not to be regarded as an official PtM issue. They are not included in the 2017 year set of Posta tal Musograd.

  • Date of Issue: 2017.07.01
  • Free Perforation, matt paper
  • Values: US$ 1.00 / 2.00 / 5.00 / 10.00

Commemorative issue "Catalan Independence Referendum"

FM2017-05 Catalonian Independence Referendum

The Catalan Regional Government has slated an Independence Referendum for 2017.10.01. The F.M. already have unilaterally recognized the Catalan Republic in 2011, and therefore support Catalonia on its path to full independence. Although it is not sure if the referendum can take place as planned, Posta tal Musograd has issued two stamps to demonstrate the support of the F.M.. The referendum was successful and lead to a declaration of Independence.

The se-tenant stamp pair shows a view on the fortress on the top of Montjuic in Barcelona, with the current flag of Catalonia flying over the fortress on the upper stamp. On each stamp, a soaring eagle symbolizes independence

The Musogradian Independence Day issue of 2017 has an almost classical design - an eagle with extended wings (taken from an old etching) in front of the Flag of the Dershowo. It was issued on Independence Day, with two values, CW 1.00 in a smaller and CW 2.00 in a larger format.

Commemorative issue "Composers - Reissue 2017"

FM2017-07 Composers Reissue 2017

This issue is another partial reissue of the 2015 Composers series, combined with 4 additional designs. The series is required for the shipment of advertising cards for the Musogradian classical Radio station twentysound . The stamps are smaller than the original issue and have an appendix with the text "www.twentysound.net".

In this reissue, the following 8 composers are honoured:

  • Claude Debussy (1862-1918)
  • Harald Genzmer (1909-2007)
  • Bernhard Krol (1920-2013)
  • Tilo Medek (1940-2006)
  • Ottorino Respighi (1879-1936)
  • Dimitri Shostakovich (1906-1975)
  • Rudi Stephan (1897-1915)
  • Ralph Vaughan Williams (1872-1958)

The additional designs honour Debussy, Genzmer, Respighi and Vaughan Williams. Claude Debussy is the most well-known composer of the French Impressionists in the early years of the 20th century, and therefore an important link between traditional and modern classical music. Harald Genzmer, a disciple of Hindemith, was actually the first modern composer introduced to the Musogradian culture, via his recorder works which were often played in the 1980's. The Italian composer Ottorino Respighi is best known for his "Roman Trilogy", three brilliant symphonic pictures, but his other works are played on twentysound quite often, too. Ralph Vaughan Williams is an important British composer of symphonies and also of shorter works like "The Lark Ascending", which is the most intensively "rural English" work the writer knows.

Commemorative issue "Catalan Declaration of Independence"

FM2017-08 Catalan Declaration of Independence

On 2017.10.27, the Catalan parliament declared the Independence of the Catalan Republic, with a majority of 70 votes against 10 - most opposition parties had left the Parliament at this point. The declaration was met with enthusiasm both in Catalonia and in the Federated Micronations, with a representative of the F.M. present at the 2017.10.28 demonstration in the center of Balangrad City, holding the Estelada flag of the independence movement.

Based on the Independence Referendum issue, but designed as a single stamp, this issue shows a view on the fortress on the top of Montjuic in Barcelona, with the current flag of Catalonia flying over the fortress on the upper stamp. A soaring eagle symbolizes independence.

The Federated Micronations fully support the Catalan Government, with the President now living in Exile in Balangrad City. The F.M. have reconfirmed their unilateral recognition of the Catalan Republic on 2013-01-06.

Commemorative issue "Thylacine Print"

FM2017-10 Thylacine Print

During the 4th Australija Expedition in 2002, Musogradian explorers visited the island state of Tasmania. In the south of the island, at a beach at Cockle Creek, they spotted a single paw print in the sand. At the time, it was thought to be from a dog, but research and communication with Thylacine experts in late 2017 revealed the intriguing possibility that the print is actually from the "extinct" Thylacine or Tasmanian Tiger. A dog print was completely excluded by the experts, although another possibility might be a Wombat print. Both the location and the fact that it was a single print with no neighbouring prints make it probable, though, that the print was caused by a fast-running animal like Thlylacine, not a slowly walking one like a Wombat. The stamp was issued to document these facts and possibilities, on the 15th anniversary of the discovery.
